🎨 How to color it

Color the elf’s hat cranberry red, the fluffy trim snowy white, the giant ornament pale icy blue, and the top bow bright gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the snowflake points and the elf’s tiny belt, then switch to smooth marker fills for the big round ornament. Try a soft blue-to-lavender glow inside the ornament so the elf looks nestled in a quiet winter bubble.

High above the wrapping rooms, where glass baubles clicked softly in straw nests, Fennel invented a game called Hold-the-Hush. He tucked his knees under his coat, pressed two mittened hands to one shiny globe, and whispered, “Stay.” The bauble smelled faintly of peppermint polish and cold dust, but it wobbled anyway, bumping its neighbors with tiny ting-ting-ting sounds.

Fennel wanted one quiet row before the midnight packers arrived. He tried snowflake wedges. He tried a ribbon leash. Each time, the baubles rolled toward him as if the loft floor had a secret slope. At last he climbed inside the largest globe to listen. The glass hummed like a seashell full of winter, and Fennel understood: the baubles were not trying to escape. They were looking for a place to rest.

He tied the softest bow above the globe, not tight like a knot, but gentle like hands folded over a blanket. The humming settled. Every bauble in the loft leaned into its own ribbon and grew still. Ever since, ornament bows wait on top, keeping the hush in place; next time you see one, can you spot where Fennel’s quiet game began?
