🎨 How to color it

Give the pilot’s uniform a crisp navy blue, the headset a soft silver-gray, the cockpit panels a cool slate, and the clouds a pale lavender shadow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny gauges, switches, sleeve stripes, and wing pin, then fill the larger window and seat areas with smoother marker strokes. Add a sunrise gradient beyond the clouds—peach near the horizon fading into sky blue—to make the cockpit feel high and secret.

Before the sun warmed the runway, Iris tucked a blue ribbon around her flight log and set herself a dare: spot one true cloud code before breakfast. The training plane smelled of vinyl seats and rain-damp metal as she lifted from the field. Static fizzed in her headset. Below, hangars shrank to toy boxes, but ahead the clouds piled up like locked doors. She nudged the controls past her usual loop, paying for the detour with a missed cinnamon roll and cold fingers.

Then the radio went quiet—too quiet. In the hush, three cloud puffs opened into a crooked arrow pointing toward a dark speck below. A fishing boat, far from the harbor, blinked one weak light. Iris pressed the call button. “Harbor tower, small boat drifting east of Beacon Six.” Her voice sounded tiny in all that sky, but the tower answered with a crackle.

She landed after breakfast, hungry and smiling, with no one cheering. Later, tucked inside her flight log, she found salt on the blue ribbon. If you trace the clouds past the cockpit glass, can you find the arrow Iris followed before the sun warmed the runway?
