Every evening, when the prism flats rang with tiny glass clicks, Nyx tapped three crystals and asked, “Which one remembers the sky?” Then he guessed by color: blue for rain, gold for sun, violet for night. His new game made the quiet field feel bigger than any cave.
Until one day, a loose shard floated up instead of chiming. Because of that, Nyx tapped another crystal, and it rose too, cold as winter candy against his claw. Because of that, more shards lifted, turning slowly above him, each one flashing a different piece of starlight across his horns and folded tail.
At last, Nyx stopped guessing colors and asked the game a stranger question. “Where are you going?” The shards swung into a glittering path, and the stone ceiling answered by opening a window of real dark sky. Next time you see the floating gems near Nyx, can you tell which one first remembered the sky?
