🎨 How to color it

Color the dragon mint green, the party hat sunny yellow with pink dots, and the three balloons sky blue, lavender, and cherry red. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big cake layers and wings, and don’t worry if little hands color over the tiny sprinkles. Try making each candle flame orange in the middle and yellow around the edge so the cake looks extra glowy.

Behind the ribbon table, Pip tapped one claw. The cake smelled like vanilla clouds, and five tiny flames went flick-flick-flick. He wanted to puff them out, but the party crickets were still tying balloon strings, so he waited. Tap. Tap. Tappy-tap.

Confetti drifted into his party hat. The candles leaned in the warm room and made shiny puddles on the frosting. At last the crickets chirped, “Now, Pip!” He took one big breath.

Before he puffed, the top cake layer gave a soft snort. Out popped a frosting mole wearing a sprinkle crown. “I was counting to five too!” she squeaked. Pip laughed so hard the candles blew out by themselves. Next time you see the big cake, can you spot where the patient little giggle was hiding?
