🎨 How to color it

Color the dragon emerald green, the wizard’s robe deep violet, the scroll shelves warm oak, and the staff crystal icy blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the dragon’s layered scales and the tight spiral scrolls, then switch to broader strokes for the robe and wing membranes. Try a faint golden glow around the crystal so it looks important without outshining the dragon’s calm face.

Every evening, Perrin padded through the high scroll library, tapping one plain glass bead against each shelf to wake the label-lights. Click, glow, click, glow—his favorite sound. He wanted to finish before the moon bell, when Master Orlo would let him read one forbidden weather map that smelled of dust and faraway rain.

Until one day, a paper moth sneezed blue soot into the bead. The lights snapped out. Because of that, the west stacks whispered the wrong titles, and because of THAT, a rescue spell for the river bridge hid itself among pie recipes and dragon lullabies. Boots thundered in the hall; someone needed that spell before floodwater reached the town.

Perrin held the dull bead under his tongue, where his own fire kept one tiny spark. It tasted like hot pennies. “Take mine,” he breathed, and pressed the bead to the old wizard’s staff while Orlo searched the shelves. Gold ran up the crystal, labels flared, and the rescue spell slid free. Nobody saw Perrin tuck his smoky bead back under one wing. If you spot the staff’s crystal, maybe it is still holding Perrin’s borrowed spark—click, glow.
