🎨 How to color it

Layer emerald and deep teal through the dragon’s scale bands, use amber gold for the iris, and add plum, copper, and moss green to the petal-like zentangle sections. Because the patterns are tiny and nested, start with sharp colored pencils at the bold outlines, then shade inward with lighter pressure so the black line art stays crisp. Try a mischievous glint by blending the iris from honey yellow near the highlight to burnt orange at the slit pupil.

Every evening, Gavren held one eye open over the bathhouse tiles and counted the steam spirals before the sneeze-clock could chime. He liked order: soap moons in their bowls, towels folded like sleeping wings, no bubbles escaping into the rafters. Until one day a dust imp tumbled from the ceiling vent, smelling of pepper and old lint, and bowed directly on Gavren’s lower eyelid.

Because of that, Gavren’s eye watered into one enormous, glittering tear. Because of that, the tear rolled across the floor, gathered seven runaway bubbles, and bounced them onto the brass sneeze-clock. The clock inhaled. The imp whispered, “Bet you won’t blink.” Gavren, who had never blinked on duty, felt his courage arrive as a small, ridiculous tickle. Finally, he shut his eye—snap!—and the clock sneezed backward, blowing every towel into a perfect fold. At evening’s end, Gavren counted the steam spirals with one eye open.
