🎨 How to color it

Layer the panda’s patches in soft charcoal and warm ivory, color the bamboo stalks jade green, and give the long leaves a blue-green sheen. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the panda’s central forehead shapes outward, so the tiny curls, dots, and leaf veins stay crisp. Try a quiet ombré in the background bamboo—from pale sage at the bottom to misty teal above—to make the black-and-white panda patterns feel hand-carved.

The story behind this coloring page

Before the first finch called, Mina pressed her paw to a blank strip of bamboo and promised it one true mark. She had carved swirls in fallen bark before, but this strip was smooth as moonlit milk; her little challenge was to cut a stamp fine enough to sign the tea cloths drying by the riverbend. She left her moss-warm seat, carrying the bamboo under her chin while dew cooled her fur and cane leaves clicked softly overhead.

At the sandbar, she traded comfort for patience. Grit stung one paw, and a sliver nicked her thumb, bright as a berry seed. Mina rinsed it in cold water, breathed in the green smell of split bamboo, and kept turning the blade by tiny degrees. “Steady makes the line,” she whispered. When sunrise touched the river, she pressed her handmade stamp into soot ink, then onto cloth: one small spiral, uneven and entirely hers. She walked home lighter, holding the bamboo close as if it still carried the warmth of her paw.
