Under the glass roof of the Star Arcade, Sasha rolled her soccer ball between glowing floor tiles. Tap, tap, swoosh! She had just invented Spark-Run, a game where you chased each twinkling tile before it blinked out. Her knees buzzed the first time she pushed the ball past the bright starting line, but she grinned anyway. “One more sparkle!” she called, and the arcade smelled like popcorn and warm metal rails.

The game grew faster. Blue sparks skipped left, yellow sparks zipped right, and Sasha dribbled after them, laughing as her sneakers squeaked. At the last tile, a silver booth opened with a cheerful ding and handed her a cup marked NO. 1. She lifted it high, thinking it meant she had won her brand-new game.

Then the cup glowed from the inside. Its handles shone like little moons, and a path of new sparks lit up behind her, leading to a smaller kid hugging a ball at the edge of the arcade. Sasha’s brave first run had not ended the game—it had turned on the trail for whoever came next. So she stood tall beside her ball, trophy shining overhead, and dared the next player to follow the sparkle she had started.
