🎨 How to color it

Give her dress deep burgundy panels, the rose at her collar dusty pink, the jack-o’-lanterns warm orange, and the crescent moon pale silver. Use sharp colored pencils for the lace, buttons, hair strands, and tiny bats, then switch to smooth marker fills on the puff sleeves and window arches. Try making the bat hair clips glossy black while leaving small white highlights so they look like moonlit charms.

Under the glass roof of the old conservatory, Celeste held her notebook open and listened for night sounds. Drip of ivy water. Scratch of oak twigs on pointed windows. Papery pumpkin grins clicking in the draft. She wanted to write down every sound before the crescent moon slipped behind the clouds.

A bat fluttered from the rafters and landed in her hair ribbon with a velvety whuff. Celeste smiled and wrote, wing-whisper. Then her collar rose trembled. Not a petal moved in the air, but from inside it came a tiny silver chime: ding-ling, ding-ling, as if a star were tapping a spoon.

“Oh,” Celeste whispered, “you were keeping one too.” At once the conservatory answered. The windows hummed low. The pumpkins clicked in rhythm. Even the oak leaves brushed the glass like soft applause. Celeste stopped writing and let the hidden fangbell count the night for her. If you find the rose at her throat, can you almost hear the ding-ling under the moon?
