🎨 How to color it

Try stormy violet for the castle roofs, cool gray for the stone walls, golden yellow in the narrow windows, and deep black for the bats circling the crescent moon. Use sharp colored pencils on the tiny roof tiles, brick blocks, and arched window tracery, then switch to broader strokes for the sky and winding path. For extra drama, shade the sky from midnight blue at the top to smoky lavender near the towers so the pale moon feels huge.

The story behind this coloring page

Every evening, Corvin counted the castle windows from the crooked forest path, tapping each number into the mud with a stick: one, two, three, up to the needle tower. Then he invented a game called Moon-Gate. If the crescent moon touched a roof point before he finished counting, he had to choose one bat and follow it to a secret question.

One night, the moon slid low and silver, and a bat squeaked like a rusty hinge. Corvin chased it past thorny shrubs, over cold stones, and up the bridge to the iron gate. Because he followed, the other bats began tracing arrows in the clouds. Because the arrows pointed to the tallest tower, every window flashed gold except one.

“Open, if you’re playing!” Corvin called. The dark window glowed, and the gate lifted with a clank that rattled his boots. Inside waited a spiral stair smelling of dust and rain, and on the first step sat a new stick, already marking one, two, three. Next time you see the crescent over those sharp roofs, which bat would you follow?
