🎨 How to color it

Color the floating crown with golden yellow bands, ruby red and sapphire blue jewels, warm gray castle stones, and soft green hills. Use sharp colored pencils for the crown’s tiny beads, flags, roof tiles, and brick lines, then switch to light marker strokes for the wide sky and fields. Try a pale blue glow around the crown so it feels gently suspended above the tallest castle spire.

The story behind this coloring page

The Crown’s Patient Bells — Before sunrise, a soft bell should have rolled over Brindle Hill Castle like warm tea from a cup. Read the full story →

Before sunrise, a soft bell should have rolled over Brindle Hill Castle like warm tea from a cup. Elian climbed the narrow tower stairs with his lantern and his little oilcloth kit, wanting to mend the silent dawn chime before the bakers opened their ovens and the sheepdogs shook dew from their ears.

He checked the bell ropes, the silver clapper, even the flagpoles where sparrows slept in feathery bundles. Nothing. At noon, a breeze lifted the royal crown from its cushion for polishing, and Elian heard the smallest tick-tick, like rain inside a seashell. Beneath the lowest golden rim, where nobody thought to look, lay twelve tiny bells, each wrapped in dust-soft velvet.

“Wait with me,” Elian whispered, and he cleaned them one by one until sunset honeyed the towers. When the crown was raised above the castle, the bells answered the wind with a patient, shining ring. Ever since, crowns in that kingdom are worn high, so their hidden bells can tell the sky when morning has come; can you spot the rim where Elian listened for warm tea from a cup?
