🎨 How to color it

Color the dinosaur a cheerful mint green, the Santa hat and scarf bright red, the gift wrap icy blue, and the Christmas tree deep pine green. Use sharp colored pencils for the snowflakes, ornaments, scarf stripes, and tiny holly berries, then switch to smooth marker fills for the dinosaur’s belly and tail. Try a pale lavender-to-sky-blue winter background so the red hat, bow, and tree ornaments feel extra festive.

Snow squeaked under Hattie’s feet as she marched between the spruces, the striped box bumping gently against her chest. She had been invited to the North Ridge Glow, where every young dinosaur brought something that rattled, chimed, or sparkled. Her present did none of those. It only smelled faintly of cedar and ribbon glue.

Still, Hattie belonged on that trail: her scarf tassels swung with the bells in the trees, and the flakes landed soft as feathers on her horns. “Maybe quiet gifts know their moment,” she told the nearest snowdrift. When she reached the star-topped fir, the other dinosaurs were tapping ice drums and shaking pinecone shakers.

Then her Santa hat gave a tiny plink. Hattie froze. From inside the fluffy white brim rolled a little glass snow-globe bead, no bigger than a berry, with a whole silver path swirling inside it. Her quiet box was only the stand; the real surprise had traveled above her eyes all along. She set the bead on top, and the gift glowed like a trail saying, yes, this is your place. Next time you spot Hattie’s big soft hat, see if you can guess where the snow was hiding.
