🎨 How to color it

Color the spinosaurus seafoam green, its swirly sail panels coral and turquoise, the palm leaves bright jungle green, and the snowy mountain tops pale blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the sail’s curls, teeth, footprints, and fish bones, then switch to broader strokes for the body and open ground. Try making every other footprint a darker shade, as if the trail is leading the spinosaurus toward a secret path.

Every evening, Dax trotted across the star plain before moonrise, tapping each three-toed print into the dust as he counted his private challenge: twelve fish treats left where hungry little creatures would find them. He liked the dry tickle of sand under his claws and the salty snap of fish bones in his jaws. No one was supposed to see. That was the rule.

Until one day, a troop of cliff goats bounced down from the white-topped mountains and parked themselves right across his route, chewing thorn grass and clacking their horns. Because of that, Dax had to zigzag past the palm, around the pebble nests, and through the scratchy fan plants. Because of that, his fish treats spilled from his leaf pouch, scattering with a bony clatter. “Oh, scales!” he puffed, while warm wind fluttered the curls on his sail.

At last, Dax stopped racing and used the mess. He tucked one fish by a burrow, one near the tall grass, one beside a smooth rock, until all twelve were hidden in kinder places than before. Then he padded away before the first sniffing noses appeared. Next time you follow the little tracks and fish bones, can you tell which gifts Dax meant to leave unseen?
