🎨 How to color it

Color the baby spinosaurus spring green, its back sail sunny yellow, the cracked egg pale cream, and the giant leaves deep jungle green. The big body, leaves, and egg pieces are perfect for chunky crayons or markers, and it is fine if little hands color past the lines. Try making the spots on its head and tail orange so they pop like tiny secret pebbles.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the moon-wet ferns, Pip tapped his shell from inside. Tap, tap, hush. In his tiny claws he held a folded fern scrap, soft as a moth wing. His mother had tucked it there before dawn and whispered, “Take this to the hollow if you hear the river singing.”

Then the river did sing—low and silvery, from beyond the big leaves. Pip’s knees wobbled in the mud. The fern scrap warmed in his claws, and a hidden line glowed down its middle. “I can go,” he squeaked.

He stepped out, and the giant leaves leaned close. The fern opened, rose along his back, and became a bright sail to guide him home. Ever since, little spinosaurs have carried leaf-shaped sails, in case the secret river calls again. Can you spot the shell he left behind?
