Beside the warm river, Tavo pressed shell beads into a muddy line and wished for a boat to carry them without sinking. The old reeds whispered shh-shh, but the best stalks grew across the shallows, past the smooth stones where the water tickled cold around his toes.
He stepped out anyway. A pterosaur cried above the palms, and Tavo nipped three reeds, losing one bead when his claw slipped in the slick mud. He almost roared, but the stone that caught his bead shifted. Under it was a dry little pocket packed with pale river clay, softer than moonlight and smelling of rain.
Tavo carried the clay home with the reeds. He pinched, pressed, and smoothed until his own small boat cupped every bead. It was lumpy, and it was his. When you find the river stones, can you guess which one hid the clay that helped Tavo make his boat?
