🎨 How to color it

Color the roses cherry red and pink, the heart border lavender, the leaves spring green, and the curly swirls sky blue. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big petals and heart outline, and don’t worry if little hands go over the lines. Try making each tiny dot a different candy color so the swirls look like they tossed confetti.

In the warm conservatory, Nico set a brown coat button on the potting bench and tapped it: click, click, click. He wanted the six tight rose buds to open before snack time, so he made trumpet noises at them through a watering can spout.

The glass roof smelled sunny and damp. Nico waited, wiggled, and waited more. At last, the petals loosened—one, two, three—until the roses made a heart around the bench. Then the button stood up. A tiny snail slid underneath and called, “My parade seat!” Nico snorted. All that waiting had saved the best chair; can you find the roses that watched the slowest parade begin?
