🎨 How to color it

Color the bike frame cherry red, the tires charcoal black, the metal chain and gears silver, and the loose pedals bright cobalt blue. Use a sharp pencil for the spokes, chain links, cassette teeth, and brake cables, then switch to markers for the larger frame tubes and tires. Try adding tiny golden highlights on the gear teeth and cable ends so the repair parts look like a secret machine map.

Under the old station roof, Orin tightened the last hand-cut link onto his bicycle chain and whispered, “One quiet mile before moonrise.” He had made the chain guide himself from scrap aluminum, filing each edge until it felt smooth as a river stone. But when he turned the pedal, the gears clicked three times, paused, then clicked twice more, like a message. The sound came with a smell of cold oil and dust from the locked repair stall across the platform.

Orin rolled his bike past the sleeping ticket booth and paid his price at the stall door: one skinned knuckle and the brave use of his best homemade tool. Inside, moonlight silvered bins of brake pads, axles, pedals, and a lonely curved fender. He found a brass washer stamped with five tiny teeth—the same five-click pattern his gears had made. When he slid it behind the crank, the chain ran silent.

He rode home slower than he had planned, proud of every scraped, sanded, tightened piece. Next time you spot the loose gear and little tools, see if you can find the part that made one quiet mile before moonrise.
