🎨 How to color it

Color the bear honey brown, the backpack sky blue, the schoolhouse brick red, and the bell tower warm golden yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the backpack zipper, paw pads, school sign, and little window frames, then switch to broader strokes for the bear’s belly and the curving path. Try a sunrise fade behind the clouds so the school looks like it is just waking up for the first secret lesson.

Before sunrise, a young bear named Linden carried a lumpy pack up the hill, nails clicking in a jar and a strip of copper knocking thunk-thunk against his lunch tin. He wanted the new school to have a morning sound made by his own paws, not the creaky goat horn the wind kept stealing. In the bell loft, sawdust smelled sweet and sharp. Linden hammered, bent, tied, and rubbed until his paws tingled.

Then a silver moth landed on the copper. “Too bright,” it whispered, its wings flicking like paper in the dark. Linden almost dropped the clapper. The moth led him to the chimney soot, where moonlight hid in gray dust. Linden smudged the bell, polished one tiny spot, and struck it once.

Bong! The sound rolled down the path, soft at first, then proud enough to wake every desk. Ever since, school bells keep one smoky secret inside their shine. Next time you see Linden’s raised paw, imagine that first bong still traveling up the hill.
