Under the striped awnings of the night bazaar, Joseph carried the skycoat from stall to stall every evening, letting sleepy shopkeepers tuck one wish into its pockets. The coat smelled of cinnamon tea and lamp smoke, and its stitched patches rustled like dry leaves. Joseph wanted to hang it on the moon-pole before midnight, quiet as always, so the wishes could rise without a fuss.
Until one day, a comet-moth burst from a jar of silver buttons and landed on the collar. “Race me!” it squeaked. Because of that, the coat’s dots began popping like tiny drums. Because of that, the leaf patches whistled, the swirl patches spun, and the whole bazaar chased the sound between baskets of oranges and bells.
Joseph laughed so hard he could hardly run. Finally, he climbed the moon-pole and flung the skycoat wide, not quiet at all. Wishes flew out as sparks, and everyone cheered theirs upward together. If you trace the stars around Joseph’s coat, can you find the one comet-moth still racing through the cinnamon-smoke night?
