🎨 How to color it

Color the unicorn pearl white with a lavender-and-mint striped horn, make the mushroom cap strawberry red with creamy white spots, and give the daisies sunny yellow centers with pink and sky-blue petals. Use sharp colored pencils for the mushroom gills, flower veins, eyelashes, and small grass blades, then switch to broader strokes on the unicorn’s round face and the mushroom cap. For a mischievous touch, shade the ladybug’s shell cherry red and add a faint golden glow under the mushroom rim, as if it has been hiding a secret light.

Under the tallest blades in Snickerroot Patch, Quilla pressed both hooves to the red cap and waited for the famous Gigglecap to laugh. Dew smelled like cucumbers, bees stitched lazy loops, and the mushroom only sat there, plump and silent. Quilla did not poke it. She did not sing at it. She only watched the white spots, counting them twice because one looked suspiciously like a nose.

A daisy sneezed pollen. Grass brushed her ankles. Still, Quilla waited, smiling so quietly that even her striped horn seemed to whisper. Then a tiny voice beneath a petal said, “Scoot over, tall sparkle.” A ladybug marched up the flower stem, tapped the mushroom once, and burped.

The sound bounced under the cap—brip, brup, BWA-ha! Quilla’s cheeks puffed with laughter. The Gigglecap had never been waiting to laugh first; it had been waiting for the garden’s smallest comedian. Next time you spot the ladybug, can you guess which white spot Quilla counted as the nose?
