Every day, Arden the ant swept the white dashes on Acorn Road so the airport planes could follow them home. Swish-swish went his grass broom, and warm dust tickled his feet. He wanted every tired pilot to see a neat, bright path before sunset. Until one day, a gusty wind blew sand across the road, and the next airplane buzzed in circles with a worried putt-putt sound.
Because of that, Arden climbed his anthill to wave both arms. Because of that, his foot bumped a loose pebble beside his tiny door. Pop! Out rolled a shiny acorn cap packed with glittering firefly dust, hidden where nobody thought to look. “This will help,” Arden whispered. He sprinkled it along the road dashes, then ducked behind a weed while the runway began to glow. The airplane dipped safely past the clouds, and nobody saw Arden grin on his hill. Next time you see his little door, guess what else might be tucked inside the warm dust.
