The star-path rang like tiny bells under Astra’s hooves, and she ran because every silver point ahead seemed to call her name. Clouds curled aside in cool ribbons; the night smelled of rain and crushed mint. Around the high sky, petal arches and bright dots flashed past, one after another, as if the world itself had become a wheel built for speed.
She followed the ringing circle faster, mane snapping, horn warm with starlight. At the widest turn, a gust burst laughing from a spiral of cloud. “You’re late to your own route,” it said, scattering sparks like seeds. Astra slowed, and the surprise opened around her: the stars were not leading away at all. They were tracing the shape her gallop had been making since dusk.
So she ran again, not to arrive, but to keep the circle alive. The wind tucked itself beside her shoulder, the clouds rolled in rhythm, and every petal gate leaned toward the thunder of her steps. Astra belonged to the rushing ring, and the ringing ring belonged to Astra.
