🎨 How to color it

Layer deep teal through the central spiral, soft coral on the large lotus petals, antique gold along the scalloped arches, and sage green in the leaf bands. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the spiral outward, so the tiny dots, teardrops, and crosshatched arcs stay crisp. Let the four pointed petals glow a shade lighter than the surrounding rings, as if the mandala is opening from within.

At dusk, Vesper sat beneath the glass roof of the pattern conservatory, following one inked curve after another with a silver stylus. The room smelled of dust, rainwater, and old cotton paper. Around her, the great circles seemed to breathe: petal, arch, leaf, dot; petal, arch, leaf, dot. She had come only to spend the evening where her hands knew the way without needing a map.

The lines widened into gardens of repeated shapes, and the stylus made a soft tick whenever it crossed a tiny seed mark. Vesper slowed at the center, where most visitors glanced once and moved on to the grander petals. There, tucked inside the smallest curl of the spiral, the ink changed direction. Not a flourish, not a mistake: a little doorway drawn from the same patient line.

When she leaned closer, the whole mandala rearranged in her mind. Every ring had been turning toward that quiet door, not away from it. Vesper rested her palm on the paper, warm now from the lamp, and whispered, “I’m here.” The spiral held its dark, shining hush, and the conservatory felt less like a room she had entered than a place that had been keeping her seat.
