🎨 How to color it

Color the mermaid’s flowing hair coral pink, her scaly tail sea green, the dolphin soft gray, and the curling waves bright turquoise. Use sharp colored pencils for the small tail scales and shell top, then switch to broader strokes for the dolphin’s smooth back and the large swirls of water. Try making the wave foam extra white against deeper blue water so the leap looks splashy and fast.

The story behind this coloring page

Every day before breakfast, Brina tied her handmade tail loop around her waist and zipped through Wave Channel with Dipper the dolphin. The loop looked like a striped scrap of seaweed, but Brina had braided it herself from silver kelp, crab silk, and one very stubborn shoelace dropped by a sailor. It smelled faintly salty and shoe-ish, which made Dipper sneeze bubbles. “Perfect racing gear,” Brina said, patting the lumpy knot.

Until one day, her cousins dared her to ring the old Sea Bell without touching it. Brina hooked her loop to Dipper’s fin and whooshed over a foamy wave. Because of that, the loop snagged the bell rope. CLONG! Because of THAT, every sleepy gull, seal, and snack-stealing pelican in the channel woke up and joined the chase, squawking like broken trumpets.

Brina could have blamed the shoelace. Instead, she twisted, tugged, and rebraided the loop while Dipper leaped, making a new quick-release knot with her own two hands. Pop! The rope sprang free, the bell hiccupped once, and Brina laughed so hard she swallowed a bubble. Next time you spot her flying over the foam, check the striped loop—doesn’t it look a little proud?
