🎨 How to color it

Color the monkey golden brown, the tall wooden M chestnut with darker bark lines, the lowercase m mango yellow with teal dots, and the jungle leaves bright green. Use sharp colored pencils for the wood grain, leaf veins, and tiny swirls, then fill the monkey’s larger fur areas with smooth marker strokes. Try making the vines two alternating greens so the monkey looks like it is swinging through a twisty letter maze.

Under the warm, leaf-dripping canopy, Tavi tucked a mango under one arm and practiced his best M-sounds. “Mmmango, mmmud, mmmorning,” he sang, though morning was still hours away and the air smelled like rain on bark. He swung past two carved letter posts, one tall and one small, tapping them with his toes: thump, thump, mmm.

The vines answered with a silvery hum. Tavi froze upside down, whiskers tickled by a fern, as a moon-moth in a tiny berry cap fluttered from behind a leaf. It carried a reed no longer than a pine needle and waved it like a conductor’s baton. Every time the moth twitched, the spots on the little m glowed like fireflies, and the wood grain in the big M murmured, “Moooon-moooon.”

Tavi’s joy puffed out so fast he nearly dropped his mango. He whooped, the moth bowed, and soon beetles, frogs, and one sleepy snail joined the moon-moo chorus from the grass. If you peek at the twisting vines and Tavi’s grin, you may catch the next thump, thump, mmm.
