🎨 How to color it

Color the tent warm khaki, the campfire golden orange and red, the tall pine deep forest green, and the crescent moon pale yellow. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big tent panels and tree boughs, then let your child make short strokes for the flames and little grass clumps. Try a twilight surprise by shading the sky light blue at the hills and darker blue around the moon and two stars.

Under the piney dark, Nico tapped a spoon on his tin cup—ting, ting—and invented the Whisper Map Game. He wanted to find the quietest sound in camp before bedtime. Starting at the tent flap, he stepped past the warm campfire, past the rope stakes, and toward the big pine. Smoke smelled like toast. Grass brushed his ankles. “If I hear it, I mark it,” he whispered, dropping a pebble for every sound.

Crackle got one pebble. Owl-hoot got two. Then, from behind a rock, came a tiny scritch-scritch. Nico crouched and found a field mouse tugging his dropped marshmallow. The price of the secret was easy: he left the marshmallow and carried back something better—the soft nibble-noise of a midnight guest. Back at the tent, his pebble map curved like a smile. Next time you spot the logs and rocks, can you guess where the scritch-scritch began?
