🎨 How to color it

Color the rider’s helmet cherry red, the adventure bike bright teal, the backpack golden yellow, and the pine trees deep forest green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tire treads, wheel spokes, and the tiny “ADVENTURE” letters, then switch to broader strokes for the mountains and creek banks. Try a pale blue-to-lavender sky behind the clouds so the rocky crossing feels like a cool mountain morning.

At the last campsite before the high trail, Rory kept tapping the tiny brass bell tied to their handlebars. Ting. Ting. It had been Dad’s trail bell, scratched and dull, and Rory wanted it polished by sunrise at the ranger hut across the creek. The map showed an easy bridge. The evening air smelled like pine sap and cold water.

But the bridge was gone, leaving only a row of flat stones with white foam whispering between them. Rory’s knees wobbled. Then the bell chimed by itself—ting!—and a silver mark flashed on the first stone. Rory pushed off. Bump, splash, scrape. One shoe dipped into the creek, and a pedal knocked Rory’s ankle, but the next pale mark appeared, and then the next.

At the far bank, the bell’s scratch was filled with creek mud shaped like a tiny moon. Inside the ranger hut, Rory found no polish, only an old note: Some bells shine by finding the way. Rory rode back slower, listening. Next time you spot the little bell, can you guess which stone answered first?
