🎨 How to color it

Color the floppy witch hat deep violet, the buckle antique gold, the broom handle warm chestnut, and the smiling pumpkin bright orange. Use sharp colored pencils around the tiny star charms, patch stitches, rope wraps, and wood-grain lines so the small details stay crisp. Try a pale silver-to-lavender glow on the hanging crescent moon, as if it has been collecting October light.

In the highest rafters of the costume attic, Soren held his breath and listened for the tiniest sound in the October hush. He had come to hear the witch hat chime by itself, the one with star charms that tapped softly when no window was open. Dust smelled like old paper and cinnamon sticks. Below him, masks slept in boxes, capes hung like dark waterfalls, and a broom leaned across a beam as if resting after a long ride.

The charms gave a silver clink, then another. Soren followed the sound past a smiling pumpkin lantern and touched the hat’s bent brim. The felt was soft and cool, with scratchy patches sewn in crooked squares. “What are you telling me?” he whispered. A loose thread tickled his thumb, and when he lifted the brim, something thin slid free: not a note, but a round scrap of black paper sprinkled with tiny punched holes.

At first it looked empty. Then moonlight slipped through the attic vent and poured through the holes, scattering bright dots across the rafters. The stars hanging from the hat matched them exactly. The broom, the pumpkin, and even Soren’s sleeve became a quiet sky. If you peek at the hat’s dangling moon, you might wonder what other October lights are hiding under the brim.
