Behind the little stage, Seraphina pressed a dull shell button in her palm. She wanted to know why it clicked whenever music began. Tap-tap, it went, softer than rain on slippers. The velvet curtains smelled dusty and sweet, and the floorboards hummed under her toes.
When the harp played one slow note, the button jumped from her hand and rolled to the middle of the stage. Seraphina followed it, curious all the way to a high, careful twirl. “Wait for me,” she whispered. At the very top of her turn, the button opened like a tiny moon and sent five bright specks onto the wall.
Ever since, little theaters keep twinkle stars near the curtains, to remember the first question that danced away. Next time you see them around Seraphina, can you guess which star came from the button first?
