🎨 How to color it

Color the older princess’s gown deep plum, the younger princess’s dress rose pink, the crowns bright gold, and the tall curtains soft teal. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny crown jewels, sleeve borders, and hem embroidery, then switch to broader strokes for the wide skirts and stone floor. Try a pale sunset gradient through the arched window so the distant domes glow behind the two figures.

Before the noon bells, Aveline pressed one finger to her lips and set herself a challenge: cross the echo hall without saying a word. The hall was usually safe with Aunt Mirena beside the teal curtains, where beads clicked like little raindrops. But the far arch hummed under the wind, low and silver, and Aveline wanted to know if it was calling her name.

She stepped past the tassels, over cold checker stones, and toward the window where the domed roofs shone through cloud-scented air. Halfway there, her crown snagged a curtain bead. Ping! One pearl rolled away. Aunt Mirena lifted an eyebrow, but did not scold. “Some doors listen better than they open,” she whispered.

Aveline paid the price: one pearl left on the floor, one brave breath spent. At the arch, she laid her palm on the carved stone. The hum became two notes, then three, exactly matching the lullaby her mother used to sing in this hall. Aveline sang one soft line back. The stones warmed under her hand, as if the palace had been saving her place. Next time you see the tall arch behind her, can you guess which stone is still listening?
