🎨 How to color it

Color the teddy bear cookie honey brown, the cat cookie marmalade orange, the dotted star lemon yellow, and the checkered napkin in cherry red and white. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny sprinkle circles and frosting swirls, then fill the bear and cat with smooth, even strokes. For a playful twist, make every moon cookie a different nighttime shade, from blueberry to violet.

Under the awning at the bakery picnic, Nettle pressed her sugar paws to a checkered napkin and whispered her challenge: tap five treats she had never dared to touch. The first was a moon cookie, cool with lemon glaze. The second was a star dotted with tiny hard candies that clicked under her paw. “Three more,” she squeaked, though her icing whiskers trembled.

She tapped a swirly round cookie, then a heart, and finally the flaky croissant at the napkin’s corner. Crinkle-crinkle went the paper beneath her. Suddenly the red squares hopped like game spaces, and each treat she had tapped wiggled one place closer, making a silly parade around the bear cookie, who blinked frosting eyes and laughed crumbs.

Nettle giggled so hard one sprinkle nearly bounced off her ear. Her challenge had not been about tasting at all; the napkin had been waiting for a brave first player. Next picnic, if you spot the curled-tail cat beside the smiling bear, count the treats around her and see whether the board is ready to crinkle-crinkle again.
