🎨 How to color it

Color the princess’s gown in deep indigo and cream, her jeweled crown in warm gold and ruby red, the baobab trunk in soft gray-brown, and the arch patterns in sunbaked terracotta. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny crown beads, necklace rings, sleeve bands, and zigzag border before filling the wider dress panels with smooth, even strokes. Try a pale sunrise gradient behind the baobab branches so the dark indigo gown feels quiet and strong against the open savanna.

Every day, before the heat made the air shimmer, Zahara stood at the old savanna gate and marked where the baobab’s branches laid their shadows. She wanted one true sign that the dry grove beyond the wall still remembered rain. The bark smelled dusty and sweet, and grasshoppers clicked like tiny locks in the yellow grass.

Until one day, no shadow reached the ground. The arch above her hummed instead—a low note she felt in her wrists. Because of that, Zahara climbed the gate’s inner ledge, though her knees pressed hard against her gown. Because of that, she saw a loose stone in the highest point, where no keeper had ever thought to look. Inside waited a seed-rattle, smooth as river pebbles.

“Just once,” Zahara whispered. She shook it. Chik-chik, hush. The baobab leaves turned silver underneath, and far across the plain, sleeping trees lifted green fingers from the dust. Zahara climbed down slowly, brave in a small new way. If you study the arch and branches, can you find where the morning hid its first sign of rain?
