🎨 How to color it

Color the fluffy cat marmalade orange, the yarn ball deep teal, the couch soft blue, and the patterned throw mustard yellow with cream stripes. Use sharp colored pencils for the yarn’s tight bands and the little loops across the rug, then switch to broader strokes for the couch cushions. Try making the long yarn trail fade from teal to pale aqua, as if the ball is leaving a ribbon of motion behind it.

Every evening, when the parlor clock hummed eight soft notes, Orin batted the teal yarn ball from chair leg to rug edge, following its whispery drag over the floorboards. He wanted the best loop of the night: one perfect curl big enough to sit inside. Until one day, the ball bumped the couch, split a loose wrap, and gave a tiny silver chime.

Because of that, Orin pounced closer, and the yarn rolled out a glowing thread that smelled faintly of rain on warm stone. Because of that, the whole rug answered with shy sparks, hidden under loops where nobody had thought to look. “Oh,” Orin breathed, too full of joy to keep still.

Until finally, he nudged the ball toward the open room, letting the bright thread wander in wide, singing swirls for everyone to find. Next time you spot the curling trail, can you tell which loop first let the secret chime out?
