🎨 How to color it

Give the princess’s dress seafoam green, her shell crown coral pink, the sandcastle warm tan, and the palm leaves bright tropical green. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big castle towers and wavy ocean bands, and don’t worry if little hands color over a line or two. Try making each shell on the crown a different beach color, like peach, lavender, yellow, and pale blue.

Every morning, before the gulls finished their squeaky breakfast cries, Calla packed wet sand into her red bucket and tapped, tap-tapped a castle wall. She wanted one tiny tide door that could stand until the noon bell. But every wave came shush-boom and nibbled it flat.

One windy morning, the water rushed higher than ever. Because of that, Calla moved her castle back by the palms. Because of that, she had to dig deeper, scoop slower, and pat each tower twice. “Not yet, waves!” she called, smelling salt and coconut leaves.

At last her shovel clinked under the upside-down bucket. Hidden in the sand was a pearly shell key, cool and smooth. Calla tucked it above the little door, and the next wave curled around the castle instead of through it. Can you spot the patient tide door before the gulls finish their squeaky breakfast cries?
