High on the sky cliff, Quill tapped one claw on the stone, tap-tap, wishing for one soft cloud puff to tuck under his chin. The closest clouds floated just beyond his ledge, bright as milk and smelling like rain, so he spread his thin wings and slipped out. Halfway across, a tiny whistle said, “Psst—over here!” It came from a spiral shell stuck in a crack, not from a bird at all.
Quill squeezed the shell free, but the sharp rock scratched his toe, and his perfect cloud puff drifted away. He almost squawked. Then the shell hummed in the wind—whooo, wee, whooo—and the sound tickled his beak like a secret song. Quill carried it back to his ledge and tucked the music, not a cloud, under his chin. Next time you spot his wide wings near the cliff, can you guess where the whistle is hiding?
