Every day, Vela pressed one claw into the soft fern flats and said, “One good mark, one strong part.” She wanted to build a mud bridge over the squelchy patch before the evening beetles began to buzz.
Until one day, rain plopped down—plip, plop, splash! Her neat mud blocks melted into puddles. Because of that, Vela stomped wide footprints instead, packing each one with reeds and pebbles.
