Every evening, under the soft dome of the nursery planetarium, Willa pressed one paw to the glowing floor and counted the ceiling stars: pat, pause, shimmer. She wanted to invent a game that felt like her own place in the room, not the parrots’ ring toss or the tapirs’ sleepy blocks. One night, she made a rule: “Step on a star, then curl your tail like the moon.” The floor gave a tiny hum, warm as toast.
Because of that hum, five little lights slid down from the dome and settled around her paws. Because of THAT, Willa’s striped tail made a curving path all the way back to her blanket nest, as if the room had been waiting for her shape. She padded the path once, very slowly, and the stars blinked in time. At last she curled up where the tail-path ended, exactly snug. Next time you see those small stars around her paw, can you hear the soft pat, pause, shimmer?
