🎨 How to color it

Give the eagle a dark chocolate body, a white head, a golden yellow beak and feet, tan twigs, and pale blue eggs. The nest has many long curved sticks, so use a sharp crayon or pencil to follow each twig without worrying about perfect edges. Try making the far mountains soft purple and the clouds very light gray so the eagle looks bright and close.

The story behind this coloring page

High on Split-Beak Crag, a young eagle kept nudging a tiny green river stone with one claw. Orin wanted to tuck it into the new nest before sunset, but the cliff wind kept hissing, shhh-rrip, through every stick. The stone was not just a stone, between us. It was the first thing he had carried all the way from the low valley without dropping it.

Then the two eggs rolled—tap, tap—toward the nest’s open side. Orin’s chest went tight, but he stepped over the shaking twigs and pushed the river stone into the middle. “Stay,” he whispered. The stone made a small, steady bump, and the eggs leaned safely against it. Ever since, eagle nests have a secret heart-stone hidden under the twigs. If you peek at Orin’s careful feet, can you guess where he put it?
