🎨 How to color it

Color the eagle’s head snowy white, its wings deep brown, the striped shield navy and red, and the three stars golden yellow. The feathers are big and neatly separated, so use chunky crayons or markers to fill each feather from the thick outline inward. Try making the sun rays pale orange near the sun and lighter yellow as they stretch past the stars.

The story behind this coloring page

Luma Waits for Stripes — Above Cloud Pass, Luma gripped a smooth branch and watched the sleepy mountains turn blue. Read the full story →

Above Cloud Pass, Luma gripped a smooth branch and watched the sleepy mountains turn blue. She wanted to hold the morning steady until the little valley birds woke, but the sun kept sliding through the mist in thin, wobbly lines. An old shield hung against her chest, plain and dull as a flat stone. “Wait with me,” Luma whispered to it, while the wind made hush-hush sounds in her feathers.

She waited through one star, then two, then three. At last, a warm tickle shone from inside the shield, a place nobody had thought to look. Hidden in its middle were bright sun-threads, tucked there by the very first dawn. Luma spread her wings, and the threads settled into straight stripes, holding the morning light like gentle bars. Ever since then, eagle shields have worn stripes to keep dawn from hurrying by. Can you find the three patient stars that waited with Luma?
