🎨 How to color it

Color the shaggy pony chestnut brown, its long mane and tail honey blond, the daisies white with yellow centers, and the carrot bright orange with leafy green tops. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the pony’s big body and hills, then switch to a sharper crayon point for the flower petals and carrot lines. Try making the sky pale blue but leave the two puffy clouds white so the pony’s mane stands out.

Between the tickly daisies and the soft hill-grass, Gus stepped toward the biggest carrot he had ever seen. He wanted one crunchy bite, but the carrot made a tiny peep when his nose got close.

Now, this is a secret: Gus was not feeling grand-brave. His knees gave a little wobble. Still, he bent lower and whispered, “Hello?” From a hole in the carrot top, a meadow cricket popped out with a silver seed whistle. Peep-peep! The sound told the bees where the safe flowers were.

Gus did not bite. He sniffed, waited, and nudged the carrot aside. Ever since then, meadow ponies sniff before they munch—just in case a surprise is hiding where nobody thought to look.
