🎨 How to color it

Color the kitten soft orange with cream paws, make the big LOVE balloon rosy pink, and give the envelope a pale lavender shade with a red heart seal. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the large balloon and kitten body, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the stamp, whiskers, and little letter lines. Try making the floating hearts alternate pink and purple so they look like a trail of tiny sticker confetti.

By the sunny windowsill, Nola pressed her paw to a clean envelope and whispered, “One hug.” She had made herself a little challenge: fit ten quiet hugs into one note without using a single squeeze. Scratch-scratch went her crayon. The paper smelled like warm dust and strawberry jam from breakfast. She drew a tiny heart for each hug, then tied a heart balloon to the envelope so it would remember to float gently.

When Nola counted again, there were eleven hearts. Then twelve. She blinked at the balloon. Its shiny skin gave a soft squeak, and the word on it seemed to puff brighter each time she wondered. The note had not grown bigger at all; the air around it had. Nola smiled and added no more. She had found that some hugs count themselves while you are curious. Look at the little hearts around Nola again—you can almost hear the balloon squeak, “One hug.”
