🎨 How to color it

Color the tulip cups in coral, golden yellow, and raspberry pink, with emerald leaves, a honey-yellow bee, and a soft blue-gray rain cloud. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow leaf veins and rain dashes, then fill the larger petals with smooth, even strokes. Try making the raindrops slightly darker near the cloud so the tulips look freshly watered from above.

By the school garden fence, Marlo balanced on the brick edge with a tin cup ready for the first rain tap. The tulips stood taller than his knees, their leaves glossy and cool against his shins, and a bee buzzed like a tiny engine around the red cups. He wanted one clean drop for the class weather shelf, so he waited while the cloud puffed overhead, quiet as a pillow.

Drip-drip-drip began at last. Marlo held out the cup, but the drops kept landing in a neat little line between the tulip stems. He followed them, stepping over leaves, counting each dark spot in the soil. “You’re drawing something,” he whispered, as the bee zipped ahead like it knew the route.

Then the surprise showed itself where nobody had looked: not under a leaf or inside a flower, but in the cloud’s stitched-looking rim. A tiny paper corner peeked from the fluff, shaken loose by the rain. Marlo tugged it free with damp fingers. It was a map to a seed packet tucked beside the garden gate, labeled PATIENCE TULIPS. Next time you spot a puffy cloud over tall tulips, check whether one little rain line is pointing the way.
