🎨 How to color it

Try deep raspberry for the central tulip, soft coral and blush pink for the surrounding buds, sage green for the sweeping leaves, and antique gold for the dotted arcs. Use sharp pencils and color each mirrored pair together, moving from the center ring outward so the fine curls stay balanced. For a quiet twist, let the tulips fade from darker petal tips to pale bases while keeping the background clean and bright.

Every evening, Vera copied the tulip spirals in the lantern archive, weighting each page with a dull copper coin her mother had pressed into her palm years before. It was hardly worth a cent, but under lamplight it smelled faintly of rain-wet stone and made the ink seem braver. Then one night, a cracked window let a moth storm rush through the vaulted room, scattering blank vellum into the dark rafters.

Because of that, Vera climbed the iron ladder to gather them and found the ceremonial tulip vessel trembling open on its shelf. Because of that, she saw the archive’s oldest pattern was missing its center mark, the small circle that guided every surrounding curve. She set her coin there without signing her name.

By morning, the apprentices found the pattern whole and traced it easily, never knowing why the tulip’s heart held a warmer gleam. Vera kept copying by lamplight, her hand unweighted, listening to the soft tick of wings where the dull copper coin had been.
