Every day after school, Theo tucked sticks in his pocket and hurried to the duck pond to build one tiny boat before supper. The reeds smelled muddy and sweet, and the ducks made soft quack-quack waves. One day, his best twig rolled under the green bench where nobody ever looked.
Because of that, Theo crawled after it and found a dry paper packet tied with blue thread. Inside were two shiny star stickers and a note: “For the next maker.” Because of that, he pressed the stars onto his cardboard sail, pinched the mast tight with careful fingers, and set the boat down. It rocked, floated, and carried the stars across the ripples. “I made that,” Theo whispered. Next time you spot the pond, see if you can find the little waves from the boat he built before supper.
