🎨 How to color it

Color the mermaid’s hair sunny yellow, her scaly tail teal, the shell necklace peach, and the little fish orange. Use broad crayon strokes on the big hair and tail fins, then switch to a sharper pencil for the small tail scales and seaweed leaves. Try making the star on her tail fin bright pink so it looks like a secret sticker from the reef.

The story behind this coloring page

Tula’s Button Bubble Trick — Every day, Tula tapped her plain white button against her shell necklace—plink, plink—and the baby clams popped bubbles in time. Read the full story →

Every day, Tula tapped her plain white button against her shell necklace—plink, plink—and the baby clams popped bubbles in time. She wanted to keep the button shiny because it was the only thing left from Captain Snort’s lost coat, and it made the silliest parade music.

Until one day, a sneaky current hiccupped, slurp-swirl, and stole every nursery bubble. Because of that, the baby clams shut tight. Because of THAT, the seaweed ticklers drooped, and even the orange fish forgot how to wiggle. Tula grinned, tucked the button behind a rock, and whispered, “No peeking.” She tapped it fast—plinkety-plink!—until bubbles burst up everywhere. The clams laughed, the fish wiggled, and nobody saw Tula leave the button there for tomorrow. If you spot one bright bubble near the waving mermaid, maybe it is still keeping time: plink, plink.
