🎨 How to color it

Color the princess’s gown lavender, the jeweled crown gold with ruby and sapphire gems, and the castle towers soft gray with blue flags. Use chunky crayons for the big skirt panels, then let a grown-up or careful hand trace the small curls, stars, hearts, and crown jewels. Try making the open window sky pale yellow near the princess and light blue near the clouds, as if morning is sneaking in.

At the first trumpet toot, Princess Tilly hurried to the tall window with her biggest smile ready. The castle smelled like toast and roses, and the morning birds went peep-peep over the roofs. Tilly spread her swishy skirt, tapped its starry folds, and sang, “Wake up, walls! Wake up, flags!”

More voices joined in: Cook clanged two spoons, the guards hummed through their helmets, and a sleepy goat in the garden bleated right on the beat. Tilly laughed so hard her crown wobbled. Out popped three tiny silver bells that had been hiding under the tallest jewel.

Jingle-jingle! The bells made everyone dance, even the flags. Tilly leaned out and shared the sound with every tower, every cloud, and every bird. Next time you see her crown, can you spot where the giggles were hiding at the first trumpet toot?
