Under the viney pumpkin nook, Lottie polished her plain black button with a scrap of moon-soft moss. She wanted it ready for the web party, where every guest brought one tiny thing to share. The web smelled like dry leaves, and the stars made little wink-wink lights between the vines.
A pumpkin rolled close with a crooked grin. “What does your button do?” he asked. Lottie tapped it. Pip! Out popped one small giggle. She tapped again. Pip-pip! The pumpkin laughed so hard his curly stem wiggled.
Then Lottie understood: the button had been saving every giggle she had held in all week. She climbed to the middle of the web and tapped it three times. Pip-pip-pip! Joy bounced from strand to strand, tickling leaves, stars, and pumpkin cheeks. If you spot that smiling spider in the web, can you imagine the next giggle popping out?
