🎨 How to color it

Layer cool slate blue on the mountain shadows, deep pine green on the snow-tipped evergreens, warm ocher on the two tents, and ember orange in the small campfire. Use sharp colored pencils for the engraved hatching on the peaks, tree needles, smoke column, and curved snowdrifts, following each line direction instead of covering it flat. Let the footprints glow with a faint lavender-blue shadow so the trail feels quietly pressed into fresh morning snow.

Before breakfast, Sylvie invented Hearth-and-Hill: each bootprint had to point toward the place that felt most like home. The snow squeaked under her soles; spruce sap sweetened the cold, and the tents breathed softly behind her. She expected the game to end at the fire, but the stove gave a low tin sigh and sent its gray ribbon straight up, bending only where the valley wind hummed between peaks. “You know too,” she whispered. The smoke kept choosing the sky above the camp, and ever since, in that winter basin, smoke climbs to show a shelter exactly where it belongs.
