🎨 How to color it

Color the spotted cat sandy gold with dark cocoa rosettes, the fallen log warm cedar brown, and the monstera, palm, and banana leaves in layered jungle greens. Use sharp colored pencils for the cat’s small spots and the many leaf veins, then switch to broader strokes along the long log grain. Try a misty blue-green wash in the open spaces behind the hanging vines so the cat’s raised tail stands out.

Under dripping leaves, Junco placed one paw on the cedar-smelling log and listened to the soft thump it made. He liked this raised path because it fit his feet exactly: four quiet steps, a pause, then four more. Monstera leaves held beads of rain above him, and ferns brushed his whiskers with cool, tickly fingers. Somewhere beyond the banana leaves, water clicked over stones like small glass buttons.

He walked on, tail curved high, while the log gave back a low wooden hum. Each pale patch of bark seemed to wait for his next paw. Junco breathed in moss, sap, and the green pepper smell of crushed leaves. A hanging vine swung once without wind. “Who’s there?” he whispered.

A tiny tree frog blinked from the vine, bright as a new leaf. It puffed its throat and answered, prrup. The same note traveled through the log under Junco’s paws, then rose from the ferns, the broad leaves, and the hidden creek: prrup, prrup, prrup. Junco had thought he was choosing the path, but the whole wet forest had been keeping time with him. If you trace from his front paw to the curled tail, can you feel the path that purred back?
