🎨 How to color it

Color the superhero mom’s suit ruby red, her flowing cape royal blue, the heart emblem golden yellow, and the flower clusters in coral, lavender, and leafy green. Use sharp colored pencils for the banner letters, tiny stars, and layered petals, then switch to smoother marker fills for the cape and sunburst rays. Try a secret glow by fading pale yellow outward from the heart on her chest into the rays behind her.

Before the plaza lamps blinked off, Elara tucked a rolled banner under one arm and hurried from the quiet clock tower. She wanted it hanging before her mother finished the night shift at the river station. The air smelled like wet stone and tulips, and the ribbon in her pocket made a soft shhh-shhh as she ran. Then a low hum rose from the flower arch—too steady for a bee, too gentle for a machine.

Elara stepped off the safe marble path and into the dew-dark garden. Thorns caught her cape, and she had to wait, breath by breath, while she freed the cloth without tearing it. “Show me what you’re hiding,” she whispered. A silver beetle, no bigger than a button, crawled from a daisy and tapped three times on the rolled banner. When Elara uncurled it, new letters glimmered under the old ones: THANK YOU FOR EVERY NIGHT YOU KEPT WATCH.

By sunrise, the banner curved above the flowers, and Elara stood below it with damp boots, scratched gloves, and a smile she had not planned. Her mother arrived just as the beetle’s hum faded into the first birdsong. If you follow the smallest stars around the flowers, you may find where the waiting message first began to shine before the plaza lamps blinked off.
